Facial Covering Reminder for Families

August 28, 2020

Dear Families,

As we make final preparations for your students’ safe arrival on September 8, I would like to take this opportunity to remind you of important mandates we all must follow.  Please remind your students about maintaining six feet of social distancing and adhering to the face-covering guidelines.  Additional information from your child’s school as well as the District will increase over the next several days, and we are asking that you review all the information so your children are ready for a safe start to the school year. Your commitment to the health and safety of the IASD community is needed now more than ever, and I apologize in advance for the amount of information that will be communicated over the next several days.  We will be using the District’s email notification system to send all correspondences.

As previously communicated via our social media feeds as well as our District Health and Safety Plan, we need everyone to wear masks and social distance while at school. If you are unable to provide your child with a mask, please contact your child’s school and face-coverings will be provided. Each school has built-in mask breaks, and you can view these site-specific procedures by visiting our Health and Safety Plan via our District website.  Click here to view a portion of our website we dedicated to the reopening of schools.  I am hopeful you will find answers to many of your questions as we are continuously adding content.

We must all work together to keep our students and our community safe. If the cases of coronavirus escalate in the Indiana community, we may be forced to change how the District operates.  Please review the Department of Health’s recommendations regarding school closure due to confirmed COVID-19 cases. The document will give you some context about the possible length of time a closure may be based on the number of confirmed cases. To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, we are asking families to please keep the school informed of positive cases or exposures within your households and also of travel that may necessitate the need to quarantine students to ensure safety.

If you have any specific questions that need to be addressed, please contact your child’s school or my office.

Take care and stay safe.

Mr. Michael J. Vuckovich

Superintendent of Schools
